History of the Awards On the 30th April, 1987 a Deed of
Trust was drawn up and named the Mundaring Bicentennial
Scholarship Trust. Its purpose was to empower a group of
trustees to provided financial assistance to deserving young
artists within the Mundaring Shire in Western Australia. Four of the six current trustees have been with the organisation since its
inception. None of the trustees is involved in the
judging which is carried out each year by an independent panel
of artists chosen according to the interests of the
applicants. Prominent Darlington artist, Bob Juniper agreed to be
Trust patron. Bob traditionally presents the scholarships at the Shire
Centre each year. |

Scholarships and Fund-Raising:
The Trust has been very active since that
Bicentennial year of 1988, and has awarded 61 individual scholarships
with a total value in excess of $81,000. The Mundaring Shire Council
has, since 1989, supported the scholarships with annual grants to
supplement fund-raising and donations. Probably the most well-known
of the fund-raising activites was the Village Glee Club, a part of
the annual Darlington Arts Festival. Many scholarship winners performed at
this event over the years. Voluntary fund-raising still supplements
the annual grant from the Shire. |
